I’ve posted comments at the Free Money Finance blog on a number of occasions, helping my fellow community members come to a better understanding of the errors in the Old School Safe Withdrawal Rate Studies and explaining in general why the discredited Passive Investing model for understanding how stocks work needs to be replaced with the Rational Model. Set forth below is the text of an e-mail that I received on June 18 from the owner of the blog:
“While I appreciate the fact that you visit Free Money Finance, I’m going to ask you to please refrain from commenting on the site as you’re starting to dominate the investing and retirement posts. I understand you have your own take and point of view on these things and that’s great for you. Your blog/website is a wonderful place to express them. As for my site, your ideas have been bantered back and forth ad nauseum, and it’s time to move on.
“Thank for your understanding.
I declined the invitation to ban myself from discussions held at the blog and asked FMF’s permission to post his invitation at my blog. He responded with the following words:
“Report it however you like.
“You can also report that you’ve been asked nicely to refrain from commenting. You can also cite that you’ve been given a guest post on my site and have left several long comments as well. You’ve had more than your chance to be heard.
“It’s your choice how to proceed, but if you really are interested in peace and goodwill, I would think you’d be happy to fulfill my request.”
I responded by saying that, while I was certainly interested in peace and goodwill, I also was interested in “getting the entire internet opened up to honest posting on safe withdrawal rates and other important investment topics.” I added that: “This entire story is the most extraordinary thing that I have ever witnessed. It is so over the top that I think it would be fair to say that there is no top to this one.” I explained that “I think of you as a friend…and I would like to see that friendship deepen over time.”
At that point FMF banned me from posting comments to his blog.
