Rational Investors don’t go with a high stock allocation when the long-term value proposition for stocks is low. They just don’t.

I think that your title is a little bit of an overstatement. I think that it is accurate concerning financial markets, but not necessarily the economy as a whole. My reason: back in 1929, there were only a few middle class investors.
