Sometimes a really bad idea grabs hold of us and gains the ability to hurt us for a long time. Slavery was one. Buy-and-Hold Investing is another. Slavery was worse. But the damage done by Buy-and-Hold have been far-reaching. And it sometimes seems that breaking free of Buy-and-Hold Investing may be almost as hard as breaking free of slavery. Even the worst ideas gain “defenders” after they go unchallenged for a long time. Break free!
