Set forth below is the text of an e-mail that I sent to Jonathan Curiel, author of the True Slant blog, on January 25, 2010.
Jonathan:
My name is Rob Bennett. I write the “A Rich Life” blog (http://arichlife.passionsaving.com).
I much enjoyed your recent blog on how support for Sarah Palin does not always break down along typical liberal/conservative lines. I am a former liberal populist who has been pushed by changing political tides into the Sarah Palin camp. I also like your description of what journalism is about. It’s about asking questions and following up leads. It’s about open-mindedness and a rejection of dogmatism. It’s about loving to learn and loving to share what you learn.
I have a story to tell about the economic crisis that I hope you too will become interested in sharing with your readers. Today’s conventional investing wisdom is the OPPOSITE of what the entire historical record shows to be what works. Buy-and-Hold has been pushed for 30 years not because the academic research shows that it can work for investors but because it is the grandest Get Rich Quick scheme of all time and has put hundreds of millions in the pockets of the “experts” in The Stock Selling Industty. I am trying to change this. I am trying to use the internet to make middle-class investors aware of the dangers of Buy-and-Hold and the appeal of the alternate investing model (Valuation-Informed Indexing).
Here is a link to a Google Knol that I wrote (“Why Buy-and-Hold Investing Never Works”) that provides background:
Google Knol on Why Buy-and-Hold Investing Can Never Work
Please let me know if you have questions or would like to learn more. Best of luck with your blog and other journalistic pursuits!
Rob
