Set forth below is the text of a comment that I recently posted to the discussion thread for another blog entry at this site:
Bogleheads is private property. They have a right to ban you for any reason.
That question will be settled in the courts, Sensible.
The tobacco companies are private property. There was a time when the heads of the tobacco companies were doing everything in their power to suppress discussion of the research showing that smoking causes cancer. Their view was that it would be easier to turn a quick buck if people didn’t know how dangerous their product was.
That’s where we are with Buy-and-Hold today. Shiller’s Nobel-prize-winning research was not available in the days when Buy-and-Hold was being developed. So the people developing it took a wild shot in the dark on the question of price discipline and came up with this loony-tunes idea that valuation-based market timing might not be 100 percent required for every investor. Huh? What the f?
Lots of people have been hurt by that mistakes and lots more will be hurt in the next Buy-and-Hold Crisis. Each time once of you Goons engaged in abusive or criminal behavior, it makes it harder for those who want to keep our nation from being torn apart by this massive cover-up, the biggest case of financial fraud in our nation;s history. If Greaney truly believed that he had included a valuation adjustment in his study, we never would have seen a single abusive post or a single criminal act. i mean, come on.
We all have to follow the laws of the nation we live in, Those laws are there for everyone’s protection. When you learn that you got an important number wrong in a retirement study, you need to get that study corrected promptly. No death threats, no demands for unjustified board bannings, no acts of extortion, no acts of defamation. We all have responsibilities to others. There were people at the Motley Fool board who used the Greaney study to plan their retirement.
That’s where I’m coming from re this terribly important matter, in any event.

“ That question will be settled in the courts, Sensible.”
It has long been settled by the courts, Rob. Just do a simple Google search. Remember all the Twitter bans before Musk took over? That is just one of MANY examples.
What is ironic is that you also ban posts. Somehow you think it is illegal to ban you, yet somehow you don’t think it is illegal when you do it to others.
It’s for the people of the United States to decide. Not me. Not you.
And of course the people of the United States need the information they will obtain during the next Buy-and-Hold Crisis to make a better informed determination.
I ban abusive posts. I don’t ban posts making a positive case for Buy-and-Hold. I believe that investors need to hear both sides. The abusive stuff holds us all back. People who participate on either side with constructive intent help us all to advance in our understanding of these important matters.
Rob
There you go. You admit to banned people ( in your mind not agreeing with you is abusive). Others think your posts are abusive, but you think it is illegal for them to ban you.
The people of the United States have agreed that they don’t tolerate your bad behavior.
That’s not so. At every large site at which I posted, about 10 percent of the population of posters expressed a desire that people be able to talk about what the last 43 years of peer-reviewed research in this field teaches us all about how stock investing works in the real world. You Goons consider it “bad behavior” to point out the error in the Greaney retirement study (it lacks a valuation adjustment). Most community members do not feel that way. Take away the abusive posting and the criminal behavior and we would have gotten that study (and indeed ALL Buy-and-Hold retirement studies) corrected a long time ago.
I don’t say that Valuation-Informed Indexing is supported by a majority today. That’s not even close to being so. But I say that I am highly confident that, six months after we have opened every site to honest posting re the research. we will have the support percentage up to 20 percent. And then we will continue to build momentum from there.
Where I’m coming from.
Rob
10% claim, yet you can’t get even one person to come on this board to give you one ounce of support……yet we are to believe you? Meanwhile, you throw out the same B.S. about Greaney and ignore what Evidence said earlier this week.
No Rob. It is not shocking to see why you are banned so widely and why your wife left you.
You’re free to believe whatever you like, Anonymous. But I am 95 percent confident that I can get the percentage following research-based strategies up to 20 percent within six months of the day that every site is opened to honest posting re the last 43 years of peer-reviewed research. That’s always going to be so. That’s never going to change. I think that gives me a big edge.
The big question is what effect will the next Buy-and-Hold Crisis and all the human misery that will come with it have on people’s attitudes toward these matters. I think it may have a significant effect. I am not certain. But I sincerely believe that it will have an effect. I think that as a nation of people we are close to achieving some absolutely amazing stuff. I sure hope so!
Rob
You have made hundreds of thousands of posts all across the internet on a large number of websites. Despite that, you don’t have one single follower over here on a website that YOU have total control over. That shows that you have zero traction. You don’t have any edge, let alone what you think is a big edge.
This whole thing is about getting to the age of retirement with a sizeable retirement account so that you are financially comfortable. Yet here you are at that age and you are totally broke. It all failed for you, yet here you are acting like you are leading some charge towards financially rescuing the world. You are the poster child of what people should avoid.
Okay, Anonymous.
I do wish you all good things, in any event.
Rob
